That is why we are proud to introduce the “Literacy-Rich Neighborhoods Initiative” in the Fairhill-Hartranft neighborhood.
Beginning in 2021, The Village of Arts and Humanities began collaborating with the Hartranft Playground Alliance, Clymer Elementary, and community leaders on the Literacy-Rich Neighborhood Initiative. Since then, we have expanded to include dozens of neighborhood organizations and businesses in the effort.
The initiative is designed to get people across our neighborhood to think about and interact with literacy in new and exciting ways, from street art to storytelling. Through this work, we hope to build community power, preserve our community’s stories, and increase our community’s appreciation for language in all its forms.
Be sure to check out the new neighborhood mural from Philadelphia artist Kyle Confehr at Clymer Elementary School. The artwork features some favorites from our community—and has a game of “I Spy” built in! There are clues and hints about all of the different items hidden inside the painting. Try to find them all!
