We believe that literacy is a lifelong commitment, and that feeding our minds—whether young or old—doesn’t stop at the classroom door. So we’re activating the neighborhood with events to make learning and sharing stories accessible to everyone.
Help us break the record of most Reading Captains trained by Read by 4th in a single session! Join the Fairhill-Hartranft ABC team as we aim to top the record of 100 people.
Our Reading Captains training will be held on October 1, from 5:30 to 7 p.m., at Mastery Clymer Elementary School. This training is all part of the Fairhill-Hartranft ABCs, an initiative encouraging our community to think about and interact with literacy in new and exciting ways, from street art to storytelling.
Reading Captains are volunteers over the age of 18 who:
Once trained, Reading Captains will receive ongoing support and free resources from Read by 4th for themselves and to distribute in their community.

Join Tree House Books for Philadelphia Literacy Day 2024 on Saturday, September 7, from noon to 3 p.m.
It’s a festival of family fun celebrating the North Central Philadelphia neighborhood and all of the programs working to make Philadelphia a city of readers, writers, and thinkers! The event will bring together the community with local and national authors who will read and sign their books, music, food, vendors, therapy animals, and more!
